MOTHERLAND – I was born in August 15th 1977 in Manila, Philippines. My father was a former teacher and most definitely the hardest working person that I've ever known. My mom is amazing with crunching numbers, organizing and most definitely the sweetest and the most god-fearing person that I've ever known. I have 2 other siblings, my sis who is our oldest and the matriarch/decision adviser/maker for us and my brother who is my best friend and the person who made sure I grew up properly and prevented me from falling through the cracks. We were introduced in church at an early age and all three of us were in a choir at one point in our lives. My brother was the one who introduced me to playing an instrument. He was a drummer. I remembered the first day he got the set. I think I was more excited than he was. He would always tell me not to play his drumset when he's not around but of course the second he left I was banging the crap out of that thing. He never really showed me how to play the drums but I watched him all the time when his band would practice and I just try and remember how he played, the rhythm he was making and where his hands would go as he was banging the crap out of that thing. I remembered his hands were so fast doing drum rolls that I wanted to yell at him to do it again but slowly. After sneaking around for a few months he finally gave in and gave me full access on the set anytime he's not using it. I was like a kid in a candy store. After a few months of fiddling around I finally got the courage to start up a band with a few friends. The music was loud to say the least.

THE COMMONWEALTH – Arrived right before springtime of '94. The first time I ever met my cousin/band drummer Charles, I was glad that we had music as a common interest. He was into playing guitar at the time. I remembered when his dad finally bought us a 4 piece drumset. Definitely felt like a kid in a candy store and once again, the music was loud. Our now percussionist Andrew was our vocalist back in those days and we added a guitarist and sometimes we'd ask some friends to play bass. A garage band called Incubus was born. After a year or two, Charles had an interest in playing drums so I taught him the basic beat and after a week he was doing all sorts of rolls. Music does run in the blood. A switch was made and it was him and I for a while just jamming whenever we felt like it. Met our current guitarist Nick around '96-'97. We needed someone to play the bass. I took it upon myself to learn as fast as I can so we can finally have a band going. Borjaq was born. We had a friend do vocals for Borjaq but that fell apart pretty fast. Us three continued jamming and formed Umoja in 2002 with some of the funkiest local musicians. That did not last long either. First Rays was born in 2002. A trio of hungry musicians who love hang out and jam. Us three were blessed to have crossed paths with Andrew once again. 3 became 4 and finally First Rays was complete. Its been a great ride for me and although writing this bio made me feel a bit old, I still wouldn't change a thing....
